The Shoebox Specialist Program

Professional Bookkeeping Cleanup, Tax Preparation, and IRS-Ready Record Reconstruction

If you have a “shoebox” of receipts or documents, incomplete financial records, or information scattered across statements, photos, PDFs, emails, or notices, you do not have to sort through it alone. For a service fee, the Shoebox Specialist™ Program at Drake & Co. Tax Advisory helps organize, reconcile, and prepare your records for bookkeeping cleanup, tax preparation, or IRS matters. We can also advise you on better bookkeeping habits and recordkeeping systems to help you stay organized going forward.

 How The Shoebox Program Works

  1. Submit Your Records Securely: Provide your receipts, envelopes, bank statements, credit card statements, PDFs, photos, mileage logs, income records, prior-year tax documents, or IRS notices through our secure client portal or approved drop-off process. Your records do not need to be pre-sorted before submission.

  2. Organize, Categorize, and Reconstruct: We review the information provided, categorize business income and expenses, identify missing items, and reconstruct your financial activity based on available documentation and federal tax reporting standards.

  3. Reconcile and Review for Accuracy: We reconcile bank and credit card activity, compare supporting documents, flag possible gaps, and prepare clean financial summaries that may be used for bookkeeping cleanup, tax preparation, or IRS response purposes.

  4. Prepare Next Steps: Once your records are organized, we help determine the appropriate next steps, which may include preparing prior-year or current-year tax returns, responding to IRS or state notices, supporting an audit inquiry, or creating a year-round bookkeeping and tax planning system.

Who This Program Is Designed For

  • Business Owners and Freelancers: You have receipts, statements, or income records that need to be organized before accurate bookkeeping or tax preparation can be completed.

  • Taxpayers with Unfiled or Prior-Year Returns: You need reliable financial records reconstructed before filing missing tax returns or addressing a balance due.

  • Individuals Responding to IRS or State Tax Matters: You need organized records to support deductions, respond to notices, prepare for an audit inquiry, or develop a compliant path forward.
